The intent is to minimize the combined costs of acquiring and carrying inventory. The basic formula is <br><center><img border="0" src="eoq.gif"><br></center> where d = annual demand, c = average cost of order preparation, i = annual inventory carrying cost percentage, and u = unit cost.
