executive information system

A software application used by top managers, without assistance, to access information on the current organizational status.

Generally, a classification of employees/jobs for which compensation is not determined by extending the recorded hours worked by an hourly rate, e.g., pay is specified at an annual or monthly rate. Exempt employees include most professionals, administrative and management personnel, and sales representatives. Specifically, the term refers to and is fully defined by the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act, which regulates minimum wages and overtime for nonexempt employees.
